Dr. McFadden Granted Hospice Medical Director Certified

Dwight (DJ) McFadden MD, HMDC, was recently granted the Hospice Medical Director Certified credential by the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board. Dr. McFadden was recognized for his commitment to improving the quality of life by displaying professional competency in the hospice industry. This is the only certification specifically for hospice physicians.

Hospice care focuses on the quality of life for people and their caregivers experiencing an advanced, life-limiting illness. By providing compassionate care for people in the final stages of an incurable disease, hospice allows patients to live as fully and comfortably as possible. Hospice care focuses on treating the person and symptoms of the disease, rather than curative treatments so that a person’s last days may be spent with dignity and quality, surrounded by their loved ones. Professional certification affirms a knowledge and experience base for hospice physicians to display a commitment to their career, dedication to patient and family care, and the sustainability of the hospice organization and industry. HMDC designation is granted for six years and is renewed through continued validation of knowledge and re-assessment.

Dr. McFadden is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. He is board-certified in Family Medicine. Dr. McFadden has been with Community Hospice since 2018 and served as the Holmes County health commissioner for a decade.

The Hospice Medical Director Certification Board (HMDCB) serves as an independent, not-for-profit certifying body to administer a certification program for hospice medical directors and other physicians who provide hospice care for patients. The mission of HMDCB is to relieve suffering and improve quality of life by promoting the excellence and professional competency of hospice medical directors.
